As a professional brand and product photographer, I obviously know the importance of great photos. But I also know that photos aren't where the visual story has to end. Illustrations add a whimsical touch to your website, print collateral, or packaging.
Think custom illustrations are just for big brands with big budgets? Think again!
Custom illustrations start at just $185, making it an affordable way to make your brand unique and magical.
Not sure where to start? Maybe you need:
As per US copyright law, the creator of any artwork holds the copyright to said artwork. Your commission and payment is not for the artwork copyright, but rather for the license to use the artwork I create. You'll need to refer to your licensing agreement to see the terms of use and for how long you can use the artwork.
Depending on the use of your commissioned artwork, you may need to purchase an additional license. This will typically be necessary for brands who will be using my artwork on a larger scale or for a longer period of time. If you're simply commissioning stickers to give to your clients, your initial agreement will likely cover that usage. If you're looking to sell t-shirts with my artwork across several countries and for years to come, you'll require an additional license.
Your initial agreement and license will allow the use of the artwork on the initially licensed product(s) only. If you would like to use the artwork on other products later on, you'll need to purchase an extended license. For example, if I created artwork that was licensed for stickers and a year later you wish to use it on t-shirts, you'll need an extended license. Just reach out and I can hook you up with a quote!
Licensing is actually very flexible for the client! It's meant to ensure you're only purchasing the usage you really need. I can assure you that by considering what your most realistic use will be, you will save money.
To purchase an "all media, worldwide, in perpetuity" license would cost a small fortune. Will you realistically want to use the same illustration 5 years down the line, or is it more likely you'll want to utilize something new and fresh one year from now?
It's best to purchase a license for what you know you'll need now, vs going overboard and wasting money when you end up not needing the artwork for t-shirts AND stickers AND postcards for 4 years. Remember: you can always purchase an extended license as your needs change, but there are no refunds on licenses once you purchase one.
As much as this sounds scary and totally unaffordable, I promise it's not as bad as it sounds. Most likely you're not from a worldwide brand looking to commission artwork on a large scale, so there's no need to worry! It doesn't hurt to reach out for a quote, especially since I'm willing to adjust services/licensing to fit most budgets.

Association of Illustrators Guide to Commissioning Art
After working with another graphic designer and not having the greatest experience, we were a little apprehensive about jumping into another project with someone this early on. Right from the start, we can say that you were very clear about your process and were incredibly professional; communication was so good and you very quickly answered any/all questions and explained things to me when I was a little stuck in the mud if you will. As far as the finished product, everything came out great. It far exceeded our expectations which is impressive given we had a bit of a short suspense. Thank you again for all of your hard work!
I worked with a local Brewery to create a beer with my video production company, so we needed a killer label that captured filmmaking, beer, and a nice springtime aesthetic that goes along with the flavors in the beer. She took that pile of random information and spat out some of the coolest can label art I've ever seen! This beer can will sit on my office table (that table you keep all your prized possessions and awards on) forever!
"Alicia did an amazing job bringing my rough logo sketch to life! It’s epically beautiful and perfectly captures the spirit of our business. Alicia clearly explained the process of the logo development, payment, and receipt. She worked efficiently. Responding to changes and additions to the design quickly. I’ve used Alicia for a couple of projects and she is a joy to work with. If you need a professional logo let her talented hands tackle that project!"

"When I sent some design ideas to Alicia, I had no idea this is what she would come up with. Absolutely MAGICAL! This map really brings our entire website together, plus it's fun to use! Once again, this gal has outdone herself and I can't recommend her enough!

Any given piece may draw inspiration from my favorite subjects: A floral line drawing might surround a quote from a 1960s song that I love. A Christmas lettering piece may have colors inspired by sunny California.
I tend to favor a mix of pastel and bright colors reminiscent of southern California and the 1960s, wildflowers that might have been found in a hippie's flower crown, and lettering that feels a touch whimsical.
That said, I also love to mix it up. I never know when something totally unrelated to my favorite styles will inspire me to create something new and fresh.
My core belief?
Life is too short to be boring. Make it fun + bring on the color.
